Agua de Jamaica - Mexican Hibiscus Drink
Agua de Jamaica, also known as Mexican Hibiscus Drink, is a vibrant, ruby-hued beverage. This traditional Mexican refresher is renowned for its unique tangy flavor and invigorating properties. - 1 cup, or to taste Granulated sugar
- 8 cups Water
- 1 1/2 cups Dried hibiscus flowers

Instructions
- Rinse the dried hibiscus flowers thoroughly under cold running water.
- In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- Add the rinsed hibiscus flowers to the boiling water. Turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let the flowers steep for 15-20 minutes.
- Strain the steeped mixture into a large pitcher. Press down on the flowers with a spoon to extract as much flavorful liquid as possible.
- Stir in the sugar and freshly squeezed lime juice into the hibiscus-infused water until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Refrigerate the Agua de Jamaica until thoroughly chilled, for about 2 hours.
- Serve this refreshing drink over ice cubes for an ultimate cooling experience.
Tips
- For a variation, you can add a stick of cinnamon while steeping the hibiscus flowers or a splash of rum for an adult version. You can also adjust the sugar level based on your preference.
