Ingredients
- Active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons
- Granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon
- Warm water
- 1 cup (110°f/43°c)
- All-purpose flour
- 3 cups
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Baking soda
- 1/2 cup
- Coarse salt
- for sprinkling
- Melted butter
- 2 tablespoons
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and granulated sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually pour in the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for approximately 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Carefully stir in the baking soda; the mixture will bubble.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope (about 24 inches) and shape it into a pretzel.
- Gently place each pretzel into the boiling water one at a time for 30 seconds. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a greased air fryer basket.
- Brush the tops of the pretzels with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt to taste.
- Air fry the pretzels for 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces, such as mustard or cheese sauce, and enjoy!
Tips
- For a twist on the classic, try adding different toppings like garlic powder, sesame seeds, or even cinnamon sugar for a sweet version.
- Make sure to roll the dough evenly to ensure that the pretzels cook uniformly.
- Serve your soft pretzels with a side of homemade cheese dip or spicy mustard for an extra flavor kick.
