Ingredients

Original recipe serves 6

Active dry yeast
2 teaspoons
Granulated sugar
1 tablespoon
Warm water
1 cup (110°f/43°c)
All-purpose flour
3 cups
Salt
1 teaspoon
Baking soda
1/2 cup
Coarse salt
for sprinkling
Melted butter
2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and granulated sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually pour in the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for approximately 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  6. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Carefully stir in the baking soda; the mixture will bubble.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope (about 24 inches) and shape it into a pretzel.
  8. Gently place each pretzel into the boiling water one at a time for 30 seconds. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a greased air fryer basket.
  9. Brush the tops of the pretzels with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt to taste.
  10. Air fry the pretzels for 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces, such as mustard or cheese sauce, and enjoy!
