Alabama Slammer

The Alabama Slammer, a lively and invigorating cocktail, originated in the 1970s as a popular college drink at the University of Alabama. Its playful mix of Southern Comfort, amaretto, sloe gin, and orange juice creates a vibrant symphony of flavors, boasting fruity undertones and a hint of sweetness. The cocktail is finished with a splash of grenadine that gives it a stunning sunset hue, making it not just a drink, but a visual delight. The Alabama Slammer is the perfect beverage to enjoy on a hot summer day, or whenever you need a burst of refreshing, fruity goodness.

Serves 1

Ingredients

Ice
as needed
Southern Comfort
1 ounce
Amaretto
1 ounce
Sloe Gin
1 ounce
Orange Juice
2 ounces
Grenadine
dash
Orange Slice
1 (for garnish)
Maraschino Cherry
1 (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice to chill it.
  2. Pour in the Southern Comfort, amaretto, sloe gin, and orange juice.
  3. Add a dash of grenadine. The grenadine will sink to the bottom, creating a beautiful layered effect.
  4. Shake well for about 20 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty.
  5. Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice.
  6. Garnish with a fresh orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing burst of flavors.

Tips

  • 💡 For a stronger drink, you can add more Southern Comfort, amaretto, or sloe gin to taste.
  • 💡 If you prefer your cocktails less sweet, reduce the amount of grenadine or omit it altogether.
