Alaskan King Crab Legs

Transport your taste buds to the chilly, pristine waters of Alaska with this exquisite recipe for King Crab Legs. Succulently sweet and tender, these crab legs are steamed to perfection, locking in their delicate flavor. They're served with a side of lusciously melted butter and zingy lemon wedges, making each bite an indulgence. This is a dish that truly celebrates the majesty of Alaska's marine bounty.

Ingredients

Alaskan king crab legs
2 pounds, thawed if frozen
Salt
1 tablespoon
Water
enough to fill 1/3 of your pot
Unsalted butter
1/2 cup, melted for serving
Lemon wedges
for serving

Instructions

  1. Ensure your crab legs are thoroughly thawed if they were previously frozen. Rinse the crab legs under cold running water and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  2. In a large pot, pour water until it fills about a third of the pot. Add salt and bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Once the water is boiling vigorously, carefully add the crab legs. They should be mostly submerged.
  4. Cover the pot and steam the crab legs for 5-7 minutes. They should turn bright red and be heated all the way through.
  5. While the crab legs are steaming, melt the butter in a small saucepan or in the microwave.
  6. Once the crab legs are done, carefully remove them from the pot using tongs. Arrange them on a serving platter.
  7. Serve the steaming hot crab legs with the melted butter and lemon wedges on the side. Encourage guests to squeeze lemon over the crab and dip the meat into the butter.

Tips

  • 💡 Buying pre-cooked frozen crab legs is highly recommended. They are cooked on the fishing boats or immediately upon landfall to preserve freshness.
  • 💡 You can also grill the crab legs instead of steaming. Grill over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, turning once.
  • 💡 Pair the crab legs with a light white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or a crisp beer.
