Ingredients

Sliced almonds
1 cup
Unsalted butter
1/2 cup
Granulated sugar
1 cup
All-purpose flour
2 tablespoons
Orange zest
1 tablespoon
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Dark chocolate
4 ounces, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the granulated sugar and stir until fully dissolved.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the sliced almonds, flour, orange zest, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring to leave space between each cookie as they will spread while baking.
  5. Using the back of a spoon, gently flatten and shape the batter into thin rounds.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the florentines cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the florentines are cooling, melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.
  9. Once the florentines are cool, drizzle the melted dark chocolate over the top for added flavor and decoration. Allow the chocolate to set before serving.
