Serves 4

Ingredients

Potatoes
4 medium, boiled and mashed
Green peas
1 cup, boiled
Onion
1 small, finely chopped
Green chili
1, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
Ginger
1 inch, grated
Coriander leaves
1/4 cup, finely chopped
Cumin powder
1 teaspoon
Coriander powder
1 teaspoon
Red chili powder
1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Salt
to taste
Bread crumbs
1/2 cup (for binding)
Oil
for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the boiled and mashed potatoes, boiled green peas, finely chopped onion, green chili, grated ginger, and coriander leaves.
  2. Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Gradually add the bread crumbs to the mixture and mix until the mixture holds together well. If it's too wet, add more bread crumbs as needed.
  4. Divide the mixture into equal-sized portions and shape them into round, flat patties (about 1/2 inch thick).
  5. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.
  7. Remove the patties from the pan and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with tamarind chutney or mint chutney for dipping.

Tips

  • 💡 For an added burst of flavor, consider adding finely chopped fresh mint leaves to the mixture.
  • 💡 You can also add grated carrots or finely chopped bell peppers for extra nutrition and color.
  • 💡 If you prefer baked Aloo Tikki, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), place the patties on a greased baking sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden.
