Originating as a health tonic in Japan, Aojiru has become more than just a drink; it is a celebration of nature's bounty in a glass. Serves 2

Ingredients

Kale or Young Barley Grass
1 cup, washed and chopped
Banana
1 ripe
Apple
1, cored and chopped
Water
1 to 1.5 cups
Lemon Juice
1 tablespoon, freshly squeezed
Honey or Maple Syrup
1-2 tablespoons, to taste
Chia Seeds
1 teaspoon, for garnish (optional)
Apple Slice
1, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by washing the kale or young barley grass thoroughly under running water. Chop it into small pieces for easier blending.
  2. In a blender, combine the chopped kale or barley grass with the ripe banana, chopped apple, and 1 cup of water.
  3. Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth. If the consistency is too thick for your liking, gradually add more water until you achieve your desired thickness.
  4. For an invigorating zesty kick, add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and blend briefly to combine.
  5. Taste your Aojiru and adjust the sweetness by stirring in honey or maple syrup, adding more if desired for a sweeter flavor.
  6. Pour the Aojiru into glasses and serve immediately. For an added touch, garnish with a slice of apple or a sprinkle of chia seeds.

Tips

  • 💡 For a creamier texture, consider adding a small avocado or a handful of spinach.
  • 💡 Feel free to experiment with other fruits like pears or mangoes for a unique flavor twist.
  • 💡 If you prefer a chilled drink, add ice cubes to the blender for a refreshing frozen Aojiru.
