Servings: 16

Ingredients

Apples
6 cups, peeled, cored, and chopped
Brown sugar
1 cup
White sugar
1/2 cup
Ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons
Ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Place the peeled, cored, and chopped apples into a slow cooker.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, white sugar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt. Mix well to create an even blend.
  3. Pour the sugar and spice mixture over the apples in the slow cooker, ensuring all the apples are coated. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add the lemon juice to enhance the flavor and prevent the apples from browning.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 1 hour.
  6. After 1 hour, reduce the heat to low and cook for an additional 9 to 11 hours, stirring occasionally. The mixture should thicken and turn a deep brown color.
  7. Uncover the slow cooker and continue to cook on low for another hour. If desired, use a whisk or immersion blender to stir and achieve a smoother texture.
  8. Once finished, spoon the apple butter into sterile containers. Allow to cool before sealing, then refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
