Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of this homemade apple compote. Perfectly spiced with cinnamon and enhanced with a hint of vanilla, this compote transforms tender apples into a luscious, sweet treat. Whether spooned over pancakes, swirled into yogurt, or enjoyed straight from the bowl, it's a versatile dessert that celebrates the classic flavors of autumn. Did you know that compote dates back to the 17th century in France, where it was created to preserve fruits? Enjoy the rich history and delightful taste in every bite!

Servings: 6

Ingredients

Apples
4 cups, peeled, cored, and diced
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup (adjust to taste)
Water
1/2 cup
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons
Cinnamon
1 teaspoon
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally until the apples are soft and the liquid has thickened slightly.
  4. Remove from heat and let the compote cool for a few minutes before serving. The compote will thicken even more as it cools.
  5. Serve warm or chilled, as desired. This compote is delightful over pancakes, waffles, yogurt, or even ice cream!
