Servings: 8

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
2 cups
Baking powder
2 teaspoons
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Unsalted butter
1/2 cup, softened
Granulated sugar
1 cup
Brown sugar
1/4 cup
Eggs
2 large
Milk
1/2 cup
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Apples
3 medium, peeled and thinly sliced
Cinnamon
1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture, mixing just until incorporated—be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula to create an even surface.
  7. Arrange the thinly sliced apples in a circular pattern on top of the batter, pressing them gently into the cake to allow them to meld into the batter during baking.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the arranged apples for a sweet, crunchy topping.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  10. Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature.
