Apple Pie

Apple Pie

A classic homemade apple pie with a flaky crust and a sweet apple filling.

Ingredients

  • Egg (1, beaten (for egg wash))
  • Unsalted butter (2 tablespoons, cut into small pieces)
  • Lemon juice (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Nutmeg (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Cinnamon (1 teaspoon)
  • All (purpose flour - 1/4 cup)
  • Brown sugar (1/4 cup)
  • Granulated sugar (3/4 cup)
  • Apples (6 cups, peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • Pie crust (2 (9-inch) crusts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
  5. Dot the top of the apple filling with small pieces of unsalted butter.
  6. Cover the pie with the second pie crust. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal.
  7. Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  8. Brush the top crust with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  9. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
