Arroz Con Dulce - A Puerto Rican Delight

Arroz Con Dulce is a rich, creamy rice pudding that hails from the heart of Puerto Rico. This traditional dessert is a symphony of textures and flavors, featuring tender rice grains swimming in a velvety mixture of coconut milk and sweetened condensed milk, punctuated by the subtle spice of cinnamon and cloves. Raisins add a burst of sweetness, making it a truly indulgent treat. Whether served warm with a dusting of cinnamon or chilled for a refreshing dessert, Arroz Con Dulce is a delicious end to any meal.

Serves 6

Ingredients

Coconut milk
2 cups
Water
1 cup
Medium grain rice
1 cup
Cinnamon sticks
2
Cloves
5
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Sweetened condensed milk
1 can (14 ounces)
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Raisins
1/2 cup
Ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon, plus extra for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the coconut milk, water, rice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer. Allow the rice to cook and absorb the liquid for about 30 minutes.
  3. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, raisins, and ground cinnamon. Continue cooking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens to your liking. Don't forget to stir occasionally to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat. Take out the cinnamon sticks and cloves.
  5. Transfer the Arroz con Dulce to a serving dish. If desired, sprinkle with additional ground cinnamon to taste.
  6. You can enjoy Arroz con Dulce warm, or let it cool and refrigerate to serve chilled. Both versions offer a unique taste experience.

Tips

  • 💡 If you prefer your rice pudding to be more creamy, consider adding more coconut milk or a bit of regular milk.
  • 💡 For a fun twist, try adding other dried fruits like chopped dates or apricots.
