Smoky Bacon and Brussels Sprout Skewers

Experience the ultimate blend of smoky, crispy bacon and earthy, charred Brussels sprouts in this simple yet captivating dish. Grilled to perfection, these skewers are an explosion of flavors that will take your BBQ or cookout to the next level. This dish not only provides a unique way to enjoy your vegetables, but also pays homage to the age-old love affair between bacon and Brussels sprouts, which has been a classic pairing in European cuisine for centuries.

Ingredients

Wooden skewers
10
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste
Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Brussels sprouts
20, halved
Bacon
10 strips

Instructions

  1. Start by soaking the wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes prior to grilling. This prevents them from burning.
  2. Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  3. While the grill is heating up, prepare the skewers. Thread a strip of bacon onto a skewer, then add a Brussels sprout half. Fold the bacon over the Brussels sprout and back onto the skewer, then add another Brussels sprout half. Continue this pattern until the skewer is filled.
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining skewers.
  5. Brush the prepared skewers with olive oil and season them generously with salt and pepper.
  6. Place the skewers on the preheated grill and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the bacon is crispy and the Brussels sprouts are tender and charred.
  7. Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed hot.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicy kick, sprinkle some chili flakes before grilling.
  • 💡 Basting the skewers with a bit of maple syrup in the last few minutes of grilling will add a sweet twist.
  • 💡 Always remember to soak wooden skewers in water prior to grilling to avoid burning them.
