Ingredients

Canned baked beans
2 cans (15 oz each)
Bread slices
4 slices (your choice: whole grain, white, or sourdough)
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons, softened
Grated cheese
1 cup (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite blend)
Chopped parsley
2 tablespoons, for garnish
Hot sauce

Black pepper

Optional: cooked bacon or sausage
for additional flavor

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the canned baked beans over medium heat until warmed through, stirring occasionally. If desired, add cooked bacon or sausage at this stage for an extra flavor boost.
  3. While the beans are heating, toast the bread slices until golden and crispy using a toaster or oven.
  4. Spread a generous amount of softened butter on one side of each toasted slice.
  5. Once the beans are heated, divide them evenly among the buttered side of the toast slices.
  6. Season the baked beans with salt and black pepper to taste, stirring to combine.
  7. If desired, sprinkle a generous amount of grated cheese over the beans on each toast slice.
  8. Place the prepared toast on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley.
  10. Serve hot, and don't forget to drizzle with hot sauce for an extra kick!
