Instructions
- In a large, deep skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until it begins to foam.
- Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and banana liqueur until well combined. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture starts bubbling.
- Carefully add the sliced bananas, cooking for about 3 minutes on each side until they are golden and caramelized.
- Remove the skillet from heat and carefully add the dark rum. If the mixture is hot enough, it will catch fire. If not, use a long lighter to ignite it. Allow the flames to subside on their own, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Scoop the vanilla ice cream into serving bowls and generously spoon the caramelized banana mixture over the top.
- Serve immediately, enjoying the contrast of warm bananas and cold ice cream.
Tips
- For a twist, try adding a splash of orange juice to the sauce for a citrusy brightness.
- You can substitute the dark rum with spiced rum for an added flavor dimension.
- For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the rum and enjoy the caramelized bananas over ice cream.
