Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Ground beef (1 pound)
  • Garlic (4 cloves, minced)
  • Soy sauce (2 tablespoons)
  • Fish sauce (1 tablespoon)
  • Sugar (1 teaspoon)
  • Black pepper (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Carrot (1 large, julienned)
  • Cucumber (1, thinly sliced)
  • White vinegar (1/4 cup)
  • Cilantro (1/2 cup, chopped)
  • Mayonnaise (1/4 cup)
  • Sriracha (1 tablespoon (or to taste))
  • Burger buns (4, toasted)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Form into 4 equal patties.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the julienned carrot and sliced cucumber with white vinegar. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to pickle, then drain the excess liquid. This will enhance the crunch and tanginess of the vegetables.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise and Sriracha to create the spicy mayo. Adjust the amount of Sriracha based on your preferred spice level.
  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer for precision; the internal temperature should be 160°F for medium doneness.
  5. To assemble the burgers, spread a generous amount of spicy mayo on each toasted bun. Place a grilled patty on each bun, top with the pickled vegetables and fresh cilantro, then close with the top bun.
  6. Serve immediately with extra pickled vegetables on the side, and enjoy the explosion of flavors!
