Servings: 16

Ingredients

Ghee (clarified butter)
3 tablespoons
Condensed milk
1 can (14 oz)
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup
Cardamom powder
1 teaspoon
Chopped pistachios
1/4 cup
Chopped almonds
1/4 cup
Silver leaf (optional)
for garnish

Instructions

  1. Grease an 8x8 inch or 9x9 inch square or rectangular pan with ghee and set aside.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pan, melt the ghee over medium heat.
  3. Add the condensed milk and granulated sugar to the pan, stirring well to combine the ingredients.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and cook the mixture, stirring continuously for about 20-25 minutes. The mixture should thicken and begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.
  5. Once thickened, add the cardamom powder and mix thoroughly to incorporate the flavor evenly.
  6. Remove the pan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
  7. Pour the mixture into the greased pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula to form a smooth surface.
  8. Sprinkle the chopped almonds and pistachios on top, gently pressing them into the mixture to ensure they adhere.
  9. Let the barfi cool completely at room temperature for a few hours or refrigerate it overnight to set properly.
  10. Once set, use a sharp knife to cut the barfi into square or diamond-shaped pieces.
  11. If desired, garnish with silver leaf for an authentic touch before serving.
  12. Serve and enjoy this delectable Indian sweet with family and friends!
