BBQ Pork Sandwich

Savor the mouthwatering flavors of this classic BBQ Pork Sandwich, featuring tender, slow-cooked pork shoulder bathed in a rich and tangy barbecue sauce. Topped with crunchy coleslaw and served on a soft bun, this hearty sandwich is perfect for gatherings, picnics, or a cozy night in. The roots of BBQ pork can be traced back to Southern barbecue traditions, where slow-cooking meats over low heat results in a deliciously smoky flavor that has become a staple in American cuisine.

Ingredients

Pork shoulder
3-4 pounds
Salt
1 teaspoon
Pepper
1 teaspoon
Garlic powder
1 teaspoon
Onion powder
1 teaspoon
BBQ sauce
1 cup
Brown sugar
2 tablespoons
Apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup
Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons
Buns
4-6, preferably brioche or hamburger buns
Coleslaw
2 cups, store-bought or homemade

Instructions

  1. Season the pork shoulder generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, rubbing the spices into the meat for maximum flavor.
  2. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the BBQ sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well coated.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and can be easily shredded with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
  7. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the sauce, allowing it to soak up the flavors for a few minutes.
  8. To serve, pile the BBQ pork high on the buns and top with coleslaw for added crunch and flavor.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra kick, add some cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the BBQ sauce mixture.
  • 💡 Feel free to use homemade coleslaw for a fresher taste, made with cabbage, carrots, and a tangy dressing.
  • 💡 This BBQ pork can also be served as a taco filling or over rice for a different twist.
