Beef braciole is a classic Italian dish made with thinly sliced beef, filled with a flavorful stuffing, rolled up, and simmered in a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Basil (1/4 cup, chopped)
- Dried oregano (1 teaspoon)
- Red wine (1/2 cup)
- Crushed tomatoes (2 cups)
- Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
- Onion (1, finely chopped)
- Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
- Parsley (2 tablespoons, chopped)
- Parmesan cheese (1/4 cup, grated)
- Breadcrumbs (1/2 cup)
- Beef round steak (4 slices, thinly pounded)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Lay the beef slices flat and evenly divide the breadcrumb mixture among them, spreading it over the surface of each slice.
- Roll up each slice tightly and secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the braciole on all sides, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until softened and fragrant.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, red wine, dried oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Return the braciole to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Remove the toothpicks or twine from the braciole before serving.
- Serve the beef braciole with the tomato sauce and enjoy!
