Ingredients

Original recipe serves 8

Fresh blackberries
2 cups
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons
Water
1/2 cup
Cornstarch
1 tablespoon
Water (for slurry)
1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh blackberries, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and 1/2 cup of water.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the blackberries to break down and release their juices.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry.
  5. Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the blackberry mixture while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  6. Continue to cook the sauce for an additional 5 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. If you prefer a smoother sauce, you can blend it at this stage.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool at room temperature before serving.
  8. Once cooled, transfer the blackberry sauce to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate. It will keep for up to two weeks in the fridge.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla extract during the cooking process.
  • 💡 Feel free to mix this sauce with other berries like raspberries or blueberries for a mixed berry sauce.
  • 💡 This sauce can also be served warm over desserts for a comforting finish.
