Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the blackberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the blackberries to break down.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
- Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, carefully strain the syrup into a bowl or jar, pressing down on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible while removing the seeds.
- Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
- Transfer the syrup to a clean jar or bottle, allowing it to cool completely before sealing. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Serve the blackberry syrup warm or cold over your favorite breakfast items or desserts.
Tips
- For a deeper flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or a sprig of fresh mint during the simmering process.
- If you prefer a thicker syrup, allow it to simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes until it reaches your desired consistency.
- This syrup can also be used as a cocktail mixer or drizzled over yogurt for an extra treat.
