Serves 4-6

Ingredients

Ground beef
1 pound
Betel leaves
15-20 leaves, washed and dried
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Shallots
2, minced
Lemongrass
1 stalk, minced (white part only)
Fish sauce
2 tablespoons
Sugar
1 tablespoon
Black pepper
1 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons (for grilling)
Dipping sauce
to serve

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, minced shallots, minced lemongrass, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
  2. Take a betel leaf and place a spoonful of the ground beef mixture in the center. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly to secure the filling inside.
  3. Repeat the process with the remaining betel leaves and ground beef mixture until all are wrapped.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Brush the rolls lightly with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Grill the rolls for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly charred. Ensure they are cooked evenly.
  6. Serve the Bo La Lot rolls hot with the prepared dipping sauce on the side, allowing everyone to dip and enjoy.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier version, add chopped chilies directly into the beef mixture.
  • 💡 If betel leaves are unavailable, you can substitute with large grape leaves or Swiss chard, but the flavor will differ.
  • 💡 Pair with fresh herbs like mint and cilantro for an added freshness.
