Boulettes

Boulettes, the delightful meatballs that capture the essence of comfort food, are a beloved dish across many cultures. These tender and flavorful morsels are made with a perfect blend of ground beef, aromatic spices, and fresh herbs. They can be enjoyed on their own, paired with a savory sauce, or served atop a bed of pasta or rice for a satisfying meal. Originating from various culinary traditions, boulettes reflect the creativity and resourcefulness of home cooks throughout history, allowing for endless variations to suit any palate.

Ingredients

Ground beef
1 pound
Onion
1 medium, finely chopped
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Egg
1, beaten
Breadcrumbs
1/2 cup
Fresh parsley
1/4 cup, chopped
Cumin
1 teaspoon
Paprika
1 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons (for frying)
Tomato sauce
1 cup (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, chopped parsley, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, approximately 1 inch in diameter, ensuring they are compact for even cooking.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the meatballs to the skillet in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  4. Cook the meatballs for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally to brown them evenly on all sides. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C) for safety.
  5. Once cooked, remove the meatballs from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  6. If desired, heat the tomato sauce in a small saucepan and serve the boulettes warm, either drizzled with the sauce or on the side for dipping.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicy kick, consider adding red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños to the meat mixture.
  • 💡 You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • 💡 For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free breadcrumbs or ground oats.
