Braised Belgian Endive Elegance

Experience a delightful journey to the heart of Belgian cuisine with our Braised Belgian Endive Elegance. This sumptuous side dish, with its tender endive hearts delicately braised in a sweet and tangy broth, takes your taste buds on a savory adventure. Lightly caramelized and bathed in a buttery, honey-infused broth, it's a perfect accompaniment to a wide range of main courses.

Serves 6

Ingredients

Belgian endive
6 heads
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons
Chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon
Honey
2 tablespoons
Salt
1/2 teaspoon or to taste
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon or to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Belgian endive by trimming the bottoms and removing any wilted outer leaves.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the Belgian endive heads to the skillet and cook for 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are lightly browned.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the broth, lemon juice, honey, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well mixed.
  5. Pour this tangy-sweet broth mixture over the lightly browned Belgian endive in the skillet.
  6. Cover the skillet, reduce the heat to low, and let the endive simmer for 20 minutes, or until tender.
  7. Uncover the skillet and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced and thickened slightly, coating the endive in a luxurious glaze.
  8. Serve the Braised Belgian Endive Elegance warm as a sophisticated side dish with your favorite main course.

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegan version, substitute the butter with olive oil and use vegetable broth.
  • 💡 Add a splash of white wine to the broth mixture for an extra layer of flavor.
  • 💡 Top with a sprinkle of fresh chopped parsley for added color and freshness.
