Bread and Butter Pudding

Bread and Butter Pudding

A traditional British dessert, Bread and Butter Pudding is a warm, comforting dish made from slices of buttered bread, raisins, and a creamy custard.

Ingredients

  • Nutmeg (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Vanilla extract (1 teaspoon)
  • Sugar (75g)
  • Milk (600ml)
  • Eggs (4)
  • Raisins (75g)
  • Butter (50g, softened)
  • White bread (8 slices)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Butter the bread slices on one side, then cut them into triangles.
  3. Arrange half of the bread triangles in the bottom of a baking dish, buttered-side up. Sprinkle over half of the raisins.
  4. Arrange the remaining bread triangles on top, then sprinkle over the remaining raisins.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. Pour this mixture over the bread and raisins.
  6. Let the pudding sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  8. Serve warm.
