Breadcrumbs
1/2 cup
Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup, grated
Cheddar cheese
1 cup, shredded
Milk
2 cups
All-purpose flour
1/4 cup
Butter
3 tablespoons
Cauliflower
4 cups, florets
Broccoli
4 cups, florets

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot of boiling water, steam the broccoli and cauliflower florets until tender, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to create a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Place the steamed broccoli and cauliflower in a greased baking dish. Pour the cheese sauce over the vegetables and mix well to coat evenly.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs. Mix until well combined.
  8. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture generously over the top of the gratin.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving hot. Enjoy!

Tips

  • 💡 For added flavor, consider mixing in some sautéed garlic or onions into the cheese sauce.
  • 💡 You can add cooked bacon or ham for a meaty twist.
  • 💡 For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend, and use gluten-free breadcrumbs.
