Perfect for a wholesome breakfast or a light brunch, this dish is sure to start your day off right. Originating from France, the omelette has been adored for centuries and this rendition with broccoli and ham pays homage to the classic while offering a satisfying twist.
Ingredients
- Butter
- 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon, freshly ground
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup, shredded
- Milk
- 2 tablespoons
- Eggs
- 4, large
- Ham
- 1/2 cup, diced
- Broccoli
- 1 cup, chopped
Instructions
- In a small pot, add enough water to cover the bottom and bring to a boil. Add the chopped broccoli and steam until tender, about 5 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and freshly ground black pepper until well combined.
- Heat the butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until it starts to sizzle.
- Pour the egg mixture into the skillet and let it cook undisturbed for about a minute or until the edges start to set.
- Sprinkle the steamed broccoli and diced ham evenly over one half of the omelette.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the broccoli and ham.
- Using a spatula, gently fold the other half of the omelette over the filling and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the omelette is cooked to your liking.
- Slide the omelette onto a plate and serve hot. Enjoy as is or with a side of toast or fresh fruits.
Tips
- For a fluffy omelette, whisk the eggs vigorously until you see small bubbles on the surface.
- Feel free to substitute broccoli with other vegetables like bell peppers or spinach, or ham with other proteins like cooked bacon or sausages.
- For a healthier option, use skimmed milk and substitute cheddar cheese with a low-fat cheese.
