Ingredients

Original recipe serves 8

Butter
2 tablespoons, plus more for greasing
Ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon
Raisins
1 cup
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Granulated sugar
3/4 cup
Eggs
3 large
Whole milk
2 cups
Stale bread
6 cups, cubed (preferably italian or french bread)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, place the cubed stale bread. Ensure the bread is in bite-sized pieces for even soaking.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Pour the milk mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  5. Gently stir in the raisins, distributing them evenly throughout the mixture.
  6. Transfer the bread and milk mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Dot the top of the pudding with small pieces of butter to enhance the richness.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. This dessert can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.

Tips

  • 💡 For added flavor, consider soaking the raisins in a splash of rum or brandy for an hour before adding them.
  • 💡 You can also add chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, for a delightful crunch.
  • 💡 Serve with a drizzle of warm caramel sauce or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgence.
