Bulgogi
Bulgogi, which translates to 'fire meat,' is a beloved Korean dish that features tender marinated beef grilled to perfection. This dish is not only infused with a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors but also holds cultural significance, often enjoyed during festive occasions and gatherings. The rich aroma of grilled beef combined with sesame and garlic will transport your senses straight to Korea.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Beef sirloin
- 1 pound, thinly sliced against the grain
- Soy sauce
- 1/3 cup
- Brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon
- Garlic
- 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger
- 1 tablespoon, grated
- Green onions
- 4, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
- Sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon, toasted
- Vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons (for cooking)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, and toasted sesame seeds until well combined.
- Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are evenly coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate for at least 1 hour, but for optimal flavor, marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Make sure the pan is hot before adding the beef to get a nice sear.
- Add the marinated beef to the pan in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the beef is browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
- Remove from heat and garnish with additional chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, pickled vegetables, and your favorite Korean side dishes like kimchi or lettuce wraps.
