Serves 12

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
2 cups
Baking powder
1 tablespoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup, divided
Egg
1 large
Milk
3/4 cup
Vegetable oil
for frying
Ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk together until smooth and homogenous.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed until manageable.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the buñuelos.
  5. Take small portions of the dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and shape them into smooth balls.
  6. Carefully drop the dough balls into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Once golden, remove the buñuelos from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  8. In a shallow dish, mix the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with the ground cinnamon.
  9. While the buñuelos are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  10. Serve the buñuelos warm, and enjoy their delightful flavor and texture!

Tips

  • 💡 For a twist, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for extra warmth.
  • 💡 Experiment with flavored sugars by adding vanilla or orange zest to the sugar mixture for a unique taste.
  • 💡 These buñuelos can also be served with a drizzle of honey or chocolate sauce for added indulgence.
