Servings: 6

Ingredients

Egg
1, beaten (for egg wash)
Vegetable oil
1/4 cup, plus more for brushing
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black Pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Parsley
1/4 cup, finely chopped
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Onion
1 large, finely chopped
Ground beef
500 grams (roughly 1 pound)
Phyllo dough
1 pack (roughly 450 grams or 1 pound)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cook until the onion turns translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the finely chopped parsley.
  6. Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it into sheets that fit the dimensions of your baking dish.
  7. Brush each sheet of phyllo dough with vegetable oil before layering.
  8. Layer half of the oiled phyllo sheets at the bottom of the baking dish.
  9. Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly over the layered phyllo sheets in the baking dish.
  10. Layer the remaining oiled phyllo sheets on top of the meat mixture.
  11. Brush the top layer of phyllo sheets with the beaten egg to give the burek a golden, shiny crust once baked.
  12. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the burek is golden brown and crispy.
  13. Let the burek cool slightly before serving to allow the filling to set.
