Servings: 6
Ingredients
- Cilantro
- a handful, finely chopped
- Garlic
- 3 cloves, minced
- Butter
- 4 tablespoons, melted
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Baking powder
- 1 teaspoon
- Sugar
- 1 teaspoon
- Milk
- 1/2 cup
- Yogurt
- 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour
- 2 cups
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, yogurt, milk, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix until all the ingredients are well-combined.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour. If it's too dry, add a bit more milk.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 1 hour. This will allow the gluten in the flour to relax, making the dough easier to roll and resulting in a softer naan.
- After the dough has rested, divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
- Preheat a skillet or tawa over medium heat.
- On a lightly floured surface, take one dough ball and roll it into a circle of about 6-8 inches in diameter. Don't worry about making it perfectly round - the slightly irregular shape will give your naan a rustic, homemade look.
- Place the rolled naan on the preheated skillet and cook for about 1 minute, or until bubbles start to form on the surface.
- Flip the naan and cook for another minute, or until the other side is browned and slightly charred in spots.
- Brush the cooked naan with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic and chopped cilantro. The heat of the naan will slightly cook the garlic, releasing its aroma and enhancing its flavor.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the butter naan warm with your favorite curry or dip. It's especially good with butter chicken, tikka masala, or a simple lentil dal.
