Cabbage and Noodles

Cabbage and Noodles is a classic Eastern European comfort dish, often found on family tables during the colder months. This hearty meal features tender sautéed cabbage mingling beautifully with egg noodles, all brought together with a creamy sour cream sauce and a hint of paprika. It's a dish that warms the heart and satisfies the soul, evoking the coziness of home-cooked meals shared with loved ones.

Ingredients

Egg noodles
12 oz
Unsalted butter
3 tablespoons
Onion
1 medium, chopped
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Cabbage
1 medium head, sliced
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste
Paprika
1 teaspoon
Sour cream
1/2 cup
Fresh parsley
for garnish, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir to combine.
  6. Add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet. Toss to coat the noodles with the cabbage mixture evenly.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream until well incorporated.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving for a pop of color and freshness.

Tips

  • 💡 For added protein, consider incorporating sautéed mushrooms or cooked bacon.
  • 💡 You can also add a splash of apple cider vinegar to the cabbage for a tangy twist.
  • 💡 If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute the butter with olive oil or plant-based butter.
