Butter
2 tablespoons
Onion
1 medium, chopped
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Cabbage
4 cups, shredded
Potatoes
4 cups, peeled and thinly sliced
All-purpose flour
3 tablespoons
Milk
2 cups
Cheddar cheese
1 cup, shredded
Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup, grated (divided)
Salt
to taste
Pepper
to taste
Fresh parsley
for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the shredded cabbage and sliced potatoes, cooking for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables begin to soften.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the cabbage and potatoes, stirring to coat evenly and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly, allowing the mixture to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) and spread it evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top to create a delicious crust.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
