- Butter (2 tablespoons)
- Onion (1 medium, chopped)
- Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
- Cabbage (4 cups, shredded)
- Potatoes (4 cups, peeled and thinly sliced)
- All-purpose flour (3 tablespoons)
- Milk (2 cups)
- Cheddar cheese (1 cup, shredded)
- Parmesan cheese (1/2 cup, grated (divided))
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the shredded cabbage and sliced potatoes, cooking for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables begin to soften.
- Sprinkle the flour over the cabbage and potatoes, stirring to coat evenly and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly, allowing the mixture to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) and spread it evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top to create a delicious crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
