Ingredients

Original recipe serves 6

Egg
1, beaten (for egg wash)
Pie crust
2 (9-inch) crusts
Beef broth
1/2 cup
Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon
Thyme
1 teaspoon, dried
Paprika
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Cajun seasoning
2 tablespoons
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Celery
1 stalk, chopped
Bell pepper
1, chopped (any color)
Onion
1, chopped
Ground pork
1/2 pound
Ground beef
1/2 pound

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and pork together until browned, breaking them up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, salt, black pepper, paprika, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Roll out one sheet of pie crust and line a 9-inch pie dish with it, ensuring it covers the sides well.
  6. Pour the savory meat mixture into the prepared pie crust evenly.
  7. Roll out the second sheet of pie crust and carefully place it over the top of the meat filling. Seal the edges by crimping or pinching them together and cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
  8. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish.
  9. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky.
  10. Allow the meat pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This dish is perfect for gatherings, served with a side of hot sauce for those who like an extra kick!

Tips

  • 💡 For added flavor, consider incorporating diced jalapeños or other spicy peppers into the meat mixture.
  • 💡 If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with lentils or a mix of your favorite vegetables and spices.
  • 💡 Serve with a side of coleslaw or a mixed green salad for a refreshing contrast.
