Calamari steaks
1 pound, cleaned
All-purpose flour
1 cup
Eggs
2, beaten
Breadcrumbs
1 cup, preferably panko for extra crunch
Salt
1 teaspoon, to taste
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon, to taste
Olive oil
1/2 cup, for frying
Lemon
1, cut into wedges
Mayonnaise
1/2 cup
Garlic, minced
1 clove
Fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, season the flour with salt and pepper. In another dish, beat the eggs. In a third dish, place the breadcrumbs.
  2. Pat the calamari steaks dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks.
  3. Dredge each calamari steak in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
  4. Dip the floured calamari steaks into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off.
  5. Coat the calamari steaks in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  6. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  7. Carefully add the calamari steaks to the skillet, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the calamari steaks from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. For the lemon aioli, in a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and chopped parsley until well combined.
  10. Serve the crispy calamari steaks with lemon wedges and a side of lemon aioli for dipping.
