- Calamari steaks
- 1 pound, cleaned
- All-purpose flour
- 1 cup
- Eggs
- 2, beaten
- Breadcrumbs
- 1 cup, preferably panko for extra crunch
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon, to taste
- Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon, to taste
- Olive oil
- 1/2 cup, for frying
- Lemon
- 1, cut into wedges
- Mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup
- Garlic, minced
- 1 clove
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon
- Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, season the flour with salt and pepper. In another dish, beat the eggs. In a third dish, place the breadcrumbs.
- Pat the calamari steaks dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks.
- Dredge each calamari steak in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured calamari steaks into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Coat the calamari steaks in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully add the calamari steaks to the skillet, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the calamari steaks from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- For the lemon aioli, in a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and chopped parsley until well combined.
- Serve the crispy calamari steaks with lemon wedges and a side of lemon aioli for dipping.
