Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about 8 inches in diameter.
- Spread a generous spoonful of pizza sauce on one half of each dough circle, leaving about an inch border around the edge.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, followed by your desired toppings: pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
- Carefully fold the other half of the dough over the toppings, creating a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal, ensuring no filling escapes.
- Brush the tops of the calzones with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper for added flavor.
- Place the calzones on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing in half. Serve hot with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Tips
- Feel free to customize your calzones with different fillings such as spinach, ricotta cheese, or even leftover meats.
- For a spicy kick, add some red pepper flakes to the filling or use spicy sausage instead of pepperoni.
- Serve with a side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
