Servings: 20

Ingredients

Vegetable oil
enough for deep frying
Samoosa wrappers
20 pieces
Salt
1 teaspoon, or to taste
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
Curry powder
2 tablespoons
Peas
1/2 cup, frozen
Carrot
1 large, finely diced
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Onion
1 medium, finely chopped
Ground beef
500 grams

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until completely browned.
  2. Stir in the onion, minced garlic, finely diced carrot, frozen peas, curry powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and let the filling cool down before wrapping.
  4. Take a samoosa wrapper and place a spoonful of the cooled filling at one corner. Fold the wrapper over the filling, creating a triangle. Continue folding the wrapper in a triangle pattern until you reach the end. Moisten the edge with a little water to seal it.
  5. Repeat the wrapping process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot until it reaches 375°F (190°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the samoosas.
  7. Fry the samoosas in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the fryer to ensure even cooking.
  8. Drain the cooked samoosas on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. Serve the Cape Malay Samoosas hot, accompanied with your choice of tangy dipping sauce.
