Ingredients

Original recipe serves 1

Milk
2 cups, whole or your preferred milk
Espresso or strong brewed coffee
1 shot (about 1 ounce)
Egg yolk
1 large
Sugar
2 tablespoons
Cornstarch
1 tablespoon
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon, plus more for garnish
Orange zest
1 teaspoon, freshly grated

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it becomes hot but not boiling.
  2. While the milk is heating, in a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolk, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Once the milk is hot, slowly pour it into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
  4. Return the combined mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and gently stir in the orange zest, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Brew a shot of espresso or strong coffee and pour it into a mug.
  7. Pour the creamy custard mixture over the espresso, stirring gently to combine the layers.
  8. Optional: Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or some grated chocolate on top for an added touch of elegance.
  9. Serve hot and savor the delightful fusion of flavors.
