Serves 2

Ingredients

Bread slices
4 slices (white, whole grain, or sourdough)
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons, softened
Ham slices
4 slices (preferably honey or smoked ham)
Cheddar cheese
1 cup, grated
Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a sandwich press or a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  2. Spread the softened butter on one side of each slice of bread evenly.
  3. On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard if using.
  4. Layer a slice of ham on top of the mustard, followed by 1/2 cup of grated cheddar cheese.
  5. Top with the remaining slices of bread, ensuring the buttered side is facing up.
  6. Carefully place the sandwiches in the sandwich press or pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  7. Remove the toasties from the heat and allow to cool for a minute before cutting them in half.
  8. Serve hot, optionally with a side of pickles or a simple salad for a complete meal.

Tips

  • 💡 For a twist, try adding sliced tomatoes or avocado for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • 💡 Experiment with different types of cheese like Gruyère or mozzarella for varying textures and tastes.
  • 💡 If you love a bit of spice, consider adding sliced jalapeños or a sprinkle of chili flakes.
