Chicago Style Pizza

This deep-dish pizza is a classic Chicago favorite, with a thick buttery crust, chunky tomato sauce, and lots of cheese.

Ingredients

  • Parmesan cheese (1/2 cup, grated)
  • Mozzarella cheese (2 cups, shredded)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Dried basil (1 teaspoon)
  • Dried oregano (1 teaspoon)
  • Canned crushed tomatoes (1 can (28 ounces))
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • Green bell pepper (1, thinly sliced)
  • Onion (1, thinly sliced)
  • Italian sausage (1 pound, crumbled)
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Pizza dough (1 pound)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Press the pizza dough into a deep-dish pizza pan, covering the bottom and sides.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  4. Add the Italian sausage, onion, green bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until the sausage is browned and the vegetables are softened.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Spread the tomato mixture over the pizza dough.
  7. Top with the cooked sausage, onion, and bell pepper mixture.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Allow the pizza to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
