Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breasts and ensure they are fully submerged in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat your waffle iron and heat your deep fryer or a large pot of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- In a shallow dish, mix the flour with salt and pepper.
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Fry the chicken in the deep fryer or pot until golden brown and cooked through, about 10 minutes. Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
- While the chicken is frying, prepare the waffles: In a large bowl, combine the waffle mix, eggs, milk, and melted butter. Cook the waffles according to your waffle iron's instructions.
- Serve the fried chicken on top of the waffles, drizzled with maple syrup and a knob of butter on top.
Tips
- For an extra kick, add a few drops of hot sauce to the maple syrup before serving.
- For a variation, add a handful of chopped herbs such as chives or parsley to the waffle mix.
