Savory Chicken Wontons

Indulge in these delightful homemade chicken wontons, filled with a scrumptious blend of ground chicken, fresh vegetables, and aromatic seasonings. These little pockets of joy are perfect as appetizers for gatherings or as a satisfying main course. Originating from Chinese cuisine, wontons have been enjoyed for centuries, often served in soups or fried to a golden, crispy perfection. Serves 4

Ingredients

Ground chicken
1 pound
Wonton wrappers
1 package (about 50 wrappers)
Vegetable oil
1/4 cup (for frying)
Water
1/4 cup (for sealing)
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Ginger
1 tablespoon, finely grated
Green onions
3, finely chopped
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Pepper
1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Take a wonton wrapper and place a small spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingertip.
  3. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal, ensuring there are no air pockets. You can also pleat the edges for a decorative touch if desired.
  4. Repeat with the remaining wonton wrappers and chicken mixture until they are all filled.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the wontons in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. If you prefer a softer wonton, you can steam them instead of frying.
  7. Remove the wontons from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve the wontons hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or a homemade ponzu sauce.

Tips

  • 💡 For a healthier option, try baking the wontons instead of frying them. Brush them lightly with oil and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • 💡 Feel free to customize the filling by adding vegetables such as finely chopped carrots, bell peppers, or mushrooms for added flavor and texture.
