Ingredients

Macaroni
8 ounces (about 2 cups)
Butter
4 tablespoons
All-purpose flour
1/4 cup
Milk
2 cups
Cheddar cheese
2 cups, shredded
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Breadcrumbs
1 cup, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, stir in the all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly until well combined and slightly golden.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps remain. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture comes to a boil and thickens, about 2 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until all pasta is well coated.
  7. Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
