Corpse Reviver No. 1

Revitalize your spirits with the Corpse Reviver No. 1, a classic cocktail that boasts a complex flavor profile combining the anise notes of absinthe, the tartness of fresh lemon juice, and the rich fruitiness of Calvados and Cognac. Traditionally served as a remedy for hangovers, this invigorating drink has its roots in the early 20th century, specifically within the cocktail culture of the 1920s. A perfect pick-me-up, it’s sure to awaken your senses and bring you back to life, one sip at a time!

Serves 1

Ingredients

Absinthe
1/2 ounce
Fresh lemon juice
1 ounce
Cointreau
1 ounce
Calvados
1 ounce
Cognac
1 ounce
Lemon twist
for garnish

Instructions

  1. Begin by chilling your martini glass by filling it with ice water and setting it aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, fill it with ice to ensure your drink is properly chilled.
  3. Add the absinthe, fresh lemon juice, Cointreau, Calvados, and Cognac to the shaker.
  4. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until the mixture is well chilled.
  5. Empty the ice water from your martini glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass.
  6. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel, expressing the oils over the drink for an aromatic touch.

Tips

  • 💡 For a more herbal flavor, you can substitute the Cointreau with another orange liqueur like Grand Marnier.
  • 💡 Experiment by adding a dash of orange bitters for an extra layer of complexity.
  • 💡 If you prefer a less potent drink, reduce the amount of Cognac and Calvados to 3/4 ounce each.
