Servings: 6

Ingredients

Cheddar cheese
2 cups, shredded
Milk
2 cups
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
All-purpose flour
1/4 cup
Butter
4 tablespoons
Potatoes
4 cups, thinly sliced (about 4 medium potatoes)
Garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon (optional for added flavor)
Paprika
1/4 teaspoon (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using) until smooth, cooking for about 1 minute.
  3. Gradually add the milk to the saucepan, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a boil; cook and stir for 2-3 minutes or until thickened and bubbly.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and combined.
  5. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cheese sauce. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
  7. After 1 hour, remove the foil and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  8. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Sprinkle with paprika for garnish, if desired.
