Instructions
- Spread a layer of Dijon mustard evenly on one side of each bread slice.
- Place a slice of ham and a slice of Gruyère cheese on the mustard side of two bread slices.
- Top with the other two slices of bread, mustard side down, to form sandwiches.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it starts to foam.
- Carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has started to melt, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- While the sandwiches are cooking, fry the eggs in a separate skillet to your desired level of doneness.
- Place a fried egg on top of each cooked sandwich.
- Season the egg with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot immediately for the best taste and enjoy the taste of France at home!
Tips
- For a Croque Monsieur, skip the fried egg on top.
- To ensure the cheese is fully melted, you can finish the sandwiches in the oven for a few minutes at 350°F (175°C).
- For an added touch of indulgence, you can make a béchamel sauce and spread it on top of the sandwich before adding the fried egg.
