Cuban Sandwich
Indulge in a classic Cuban sandwich, known as a Cubanito, where layers of succulent roast pork and savory ham meet melted Swiss cheese and zesty dill pickles, all enveloped in crispy, buttery Cuban bread. This beloved sandwich is a culinary icon of Cuban cuisine, celebrated for its harmonious combination of flavors and textures. A perfect blend of savory, tangy, and crunchy, the Cuban sandwich is not just a meal but an experience that transports you straight to the vibrant streets of Havana.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Cuban bread
- 1 loaf
- Butter
- 4 tablespoons, softened
- Dill pickles
- 1 cup, sliced
- Swiss cheese
- 8 slices
- Ham
- 8 slices
- Roast pork
- 8 ounces, sliced
- Yellow mustard
- 4 tablespoons
Instructions
- Begin by slicing the Cuban bread into 4 equal parts, and then slice each part in half lengthwise to create the sandwich base.
- Spread a generous layer of yellow mustard on the inside of each bread slice to enhance the flavor.
- On the bottom half of each sandwich, layer the sliced roast pork, followed by the ham, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles.
- Place the top half of the bread on each sandwich, pressing down gently to secure the fillings.
- Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each sandwich to achieve a golden and crispy crust.
- Heat a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the sandwiches in the pan.
- To get that signature Cuban sandwich crunch, press down on the sandwiches with a heavy object, such as a cast iron skillet or a sandwich press, and cook until the bread is toasted and the cheese is perfectly melted, about 5 minutes per side.
- Once the sandwiches are golden brown and the cheese is oozing, remove them from the pan and let them rest for a minute before slicing them in half.
