Cumin Rice with Basmati Rice

This flavorful cumin rice is made with fragrant basmati rice and aromatic cumin seeds.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cilantro (2 tablespoons, chopped)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • Salt (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • Onion (1 small, finely chopped)
  • Vegetable oil (1 tablespoon)
  • Cumin seeds (1 teaspoon)
  • Basmati rice (1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add the cumin seeds and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  5. Add the drained basmati rice and salt. Stir well to coat the rice with the oil and spices.
  6. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  8. Remove from heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
  9. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
