- Vegetable oil

- Cumin seeds

- Onion

- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon, or to taste
- Fresh cilantro
- 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, then drain well.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds and toast them for 1-2 minutes until they release their fragrant aroma, being careful not to burn them.
- Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the drained basmati rice and salt, stirring well to coat the rice evenly with the oil and spices.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the rice rest, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice gently with a fork and garnish with fresh chopped cilantro before serving.
