Original recipe serves 4

Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Garlic
4 cloves, minced
Fresh ginger
1 tablespoon, minced
Red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon
Shrimp
1 pound, peeled and deveined
Soy sauce
1/4 cup
Rice wine (Shaoxing wine)
1/4 cup
Green onions
2, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet. Sauté for about 1 minute, stirring frequently, until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Stir in the red pepper flakes to infuse the oil with heat, and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Avoid overcooking to maintain their tenderness.
  5. Pour in the soy sauce and rice wine, stirring to combine all the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Let the sauce simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the shrimp are fully cooked and the sauce has slightly thickened and reduced.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with the chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy immediately!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a splash of chili oil.
  • 💡 If you prefer a sweeter sauce, consider adding a tablespoon of honey or brown sugar.
  • 💡 Serve with jasmine rice or over a bed of sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
  • 💡 For an aromatic twist, add a splash of sesame oil at the end for added depth.
